Community Conversation

Do you have a topic of conversation that would be important to discuss with fellow citizens of the township or do you have suggestions on how we the citizens of Cavan-Monaghan can improve our own quality of life within the township?  Please share your thoughts.

  1. I will be speaking at next week's Council Meeting Tuesday at 1:00 regarding Councillor Bartlett's admission at the August 4 meeting that he owns property within the Fraserville Secondary Plan. According to the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, R.S.). 1990, Chapter M.50 a member should disclose this type of interest prior to the consideration of the matter by Council and not take part in any discussion of it or vote on any question relating to the matter. I will be suggesting to Councillor Bartlett that he should comply with this section of the act and remove himself from any further discussions or votes on the Fraserville Secondary Plan. Please attend the meeting to support this request. No doubt it will be very interesting to har what Councillor Bartlett's response will be.

  2. Councillor Bartlett's reaction yesterday about his possible conflict of interest regarding his ownership of land in the Fraserville Secondary Plan Area was 'no comment'. In my opinion, he missed an opportunity to explain to the electors how he can continue to participate in discussions on this very important matter without prejudicing his position further. Silence is, of course, his prorogative, but with elections just 14 months away, one would think he would want to be more transparent about his dealings with the public. All the elecors of Cavan Monaghan want is good, fair, responsible representation. That is what we are entitled to and anything less is unacceptable.
